  • Why is it necessary to create a visually appealing publication today?
  • What are the elements of good design?
Activity 1
  1. Think about "Readability" in the papers: text; visuals; white space.
  2. Research online to locate a newspaper that you can assess.

1. Think about the elements of good design:
  • balance
  • dominant story and photo
  • type faces and styles
  • justification
  • screens
  • modular or grid design
  • the use of rule lines
  • bylines, logos, infographics, standing heads, captions, pull-out quotes
  • photos tell a story
2. Using the hand-out, assess one of the online newspapers you found.
